  • We’re gearing up for Awana! Elim’s Awana Clubs will begin meeting on Wednesday, September 16th at 6:30 pm with a sensational kick-off. If you want to be a part of our fast-paced Awana Clubs, see the church office to get on board!
  • More volunteers are needed for our own in-house mission field—Children’s Church! These little ones need to hear about God’s love and salvation. Won’t you tell them by being part of our rotation of volunteers? See the church office for details.
  • Serving others is one of the many ways that we can bring glory to God. We have an opportunity to glorify our Lord at the Rockford Rescue Mission at 5:45 pm on Tuesday, September 15th, by serving dinner and doing light clean up. Sign up on the back table in the sanctuary.
  • Meeting on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 9-11 am, this study for men of all ages (young and old), continues in discussion of “Practical Religion” by J.C. Ryle. Join this group of men who are sharpening each other in study, prayer and fellowship. The next meeting will be September 19th.
  • Those sisters in Christ who have been praying for and serving another sisters anonymously will meet for a wonderful potluck luncheon at Noon on Saturday, September 26th. Will you find out who your Serving Sister has been for the last year? Come and find out!

From the Pastor’s Recent Reading:

In his comments on John 10, J. C. Ryle makes a worthy observation regarding “our Lord’s strong language about the false teachers of the Jews. . . .” Ryle writes:

Those who think that unsound ministers ought never to be exposed and held up to notice, and men ought never to be warned against them, would do well to study this passage. No class of character throughout our Lord’s ministry seems to call forth such severe denunciation as that of false pastors. The reason is obvious. Other men ruin themselves alone: false pastors ruin their flocks as well as themselves. To flatter all ordained men, and say they never should be called unsound and dangerous guides, is the surest way to injure the Church and offend Christ. —J. C. Ryle’s Expository Thoughts on the Gospels (vol 2)
