This Week @ Elim: 5-22 thru 5-28-2010

Those planning on attending the Bible Conference in Freeport need to be at the church at 6:00 pm this evening (Friday) and at 8:30 am Saturday! We’ll caravan to Freeport from the Elim church building.

On the Lord’s Day:

  • 9:15 am — Sunday school classes for all ages: Classes for graded age groups meet to learn from the Scriptures. To see Sunday school classes, ages and meeting locations, click on the red “Ministries” button under the category “Pages” (to the right).
  • 10:30 am — We continue to look at The Church around the World from Acts 13. Be sure to check out the new sermon outline provided for you on the back of the bulletin!
  • Immediately after the morning service, we’ll hold a special cake reception for our Elim graduates. Baskets are available for cards of congratulations and encouragement.
  • Elim’s Council of Elders meets after the morning service. Please pray for the men who lead our church in its doctrine and practice.

During the Week:

  • Monday, 6:40 & 7:40 pm: Elim League Softball continues on Diamond #1. Players and fans, check out the schedule at http://www.racsoftball.com/ for all the latest news.
  • Tuesday, 10:30 am: Our Ten-thirty Tuesdays Bible study continues this week in our reading and discussion in the Old Testament.

Upcoming and Ongoing:

  • For the women of Elim and their friends, the sisters newsletter is now available! Pick up your copy on the back table in the sanctuary!
  • Are you qualified to be an Encourager? If you’re over 60 and you want to encourage those younger (and each other!) in the faith, you are qualified! And one of the unique privileges of an Encourager is the fellowship of others at specially planned events! Set aside Wednesday, June 9th, for a Luncheon Cruise on The Pride of Oregon, a paddlewheel riverboat, to cruise the beautiful Rock River. The group will leave the church building at 9:15 that morning. Cost is $30 per person. There is a sign-up sheet on the back table in the sanctuary.

From the Pastor’s Recent Reading:

Spiritual men with effective spiritual ministry will see God extend their spiritual mission. God chooses for further ministry those already actively serving Him. He is not likely to take idle Christians down from the shelf, dust them off, and entrust them with important work. Saul and Barnabas were deeply involved in ministering to the Lord when their call to further service came. God chose experienced, proven men for the vitally important mission to the Gentiles.—from John MacArthur’s Commentary on Acts
