This Week @ Elim: (2-Week Edition) 9-5 thru 9-18-2010

Here’s what’s happening at Elim for the next 2 weeks:

Don’t forget the start of our Tuesday morning and Thursday evening Bible studies! See the schedule below for more info. You won’t want to miss this!

On the Lord’s Day:

  • 9:15 am — Sunday school classes for all ages: Classes for graded age groups meet to learn from the Scriptures. To see Sunday school classes, ages and meeting locations, click on the red “Ministries” button under the category “Pages” (to the right).
  • 10:30 am — Our worship of the living God this week will include the celebration of the Lord’s Table. Ask the Lord NOW to prepare your heart and mind as you examine your stand before the Lord and His people. Next week (9-12): Worship Him in Spirit and in Truth according to His Word.

During the Week of 9-5 thru 9-11

  • Tuesday, 10:30 am: We begin a 5-week course in the doctrines of Roman Catholicism each week at 10:30 am on Tuesday morning, and again with the same material at 6:30 pm on Thursday evening. We’ll examine the origins and the modern-day ramifications of papal authority, salvation (including Purgatory), worship of Mary and the Catholic Mass.
  • Thursday, 6:30 pm: Thursday Night Toolkit Bible Study (see above).

Upcoming and Ongoing:

  • It is our goal to produce a new Elim photo directory this fall. Lots of pictures have already been “snapped” but you may be asked to pose for a shot or two in the next few days. Please say, “Yes!” It helps us all to know (and pray for) each other better when we can connect a face to a name.We are asking that EACH FAMILY fill out the form enclosed in this bulletin and put it in the offering plate, give it to an usher, or send it to the church office.
  • Are you ready for Awana? Our Awana program will kick off on Wednesday, September 15th. It’s not too late to get involved in this exciting evangelism and discipleship activity for kids of all ages. See the church office for more information.
  • We are still “tweaking” the new sound system. To that end, sermon CDs for 8/15, 8/22 and 8/29 are not available.

From the Pastor’s Recent Reading:

“By Jesus Christ alone, then, is the distance between man and God taken away. He has consecrated for us a new and living way (the old being quite shut up), “by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh,” Hebrews 10:20; and “through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father ” Ephesians 2:18…by this foundation, by this new and living way, are sinners admitted into communion with God, and have fellowship with Him.” —John Owen, Of Communion With God
